Tortuguero, Costa Rica

Tortuguero ("Land of the turtles") is a village on the Northern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. The beaches surrounding Tortugeuro are the nesting sites of sea turtles

It was just the start of the turtle season when we visited--it really picks up from the end of July to August. Despite this, we signed up to go on a turtle tour, but sadly, after 2 hours on a dark beach, we had to give up and go back to the lodge.

Fortunately, they've put this little guy on the beach for those of us who didn't get a chance to see the real thing.
