a bit of drama in the morning

This is the story of the shot that never happened. We drove to Lake Louise because we had heard of an article in Popular Photography rating it as one of the best sunrises (mountain with lake in foreground). Sat in the pre-dawn parking lot waiting for the sun to rise. Trekked out in the freezing cold--and nothing happened. I don't know if it's because it was winter, but we packed up after a few half hearted photos. As we were leaving the area, I caught a glimpse of the mountains from this angle.

It's a shame you didn't come home with the photo you were hoping for, but this is a fine substitution. The sunlight hitting the peak is warm and beautiful and the clouds create a great atmosphere.
Thanks! It was such a lucky moment. I've visited Banff countless times, but have never the clouds like this.
